Mohir says: The computer chip has evolved from a simple integrated circuit to a microprocessor with millions of transistors. Contrary to what Kilby (TI) was doing, I'll stick to an explanation that Sydney Darlington at Bell Labs invented the first integrated circuit called a Darlington Transistor in 1953. My father told me he used to work with Kilby; I thought he was blowing smoke until he showed me a biographic article on the man which documented his work at the company my father worked for. Apparently, the two of them were well enough acquainted that Kilby invited him to join TI as well just before the whole thing burst out. I'm just as glad we stayed where we were.
