With such enhancements, I will hardly ever miss the bus again last time i looked, which was admittedly quite a long while ago, plotting almost any athletic record vs. time gave a pretty nicely linear relationship, which indeed suggests that we're not nearing any kind of limit. of course this raises the question of what is it that we're continually improving, then? training techniques? nutrition? willpower? it's probably not due to better technology (more energy conserving shoes, carbon fibre everything, etc.) or else we'd see improvement in spurts whenever a new technology arrived, and it's smoother than that. human accomplishment, still kind of an awe inspiring mystery. |
