Seriously, the majority of people simply have never <b>really</b> sat down to contemplate how big the universe is. Compared to the sun the earth is a Speck and compare our sun to some of those others out there and <b>it</b> is a speck.

Now consider distances. <i>Lightyears</i> are used for measurement - its the distance that light travels in 1 year. Light travels at 186,000 miles <b>per second</b>. Multiply that by 60 seconds ...

The nearest star is about 3 light years away - that means if you can communicate at the speed of light it would still take 3 years to send and recieve - but there are about 100 billion stars in our galaxy which is about 100 thousand lightyears across (take the number of miles we figured in the little math puzzle above and now multiply by 100,000 to get the distance in miles)

There are about 140 stars within a 24 lightyear radius around our sun which equates to 84 years to talk back and forth. We have had transmissino technology for about what, 80 years of the 4.5 billion year existance of our sun. In other words, not only do you have extreme distances to find a signal in, but issues of timing as well. Not to mention <b>what</b> another intelligence would use for signalling and how well it would stand up across space.

So again, to claim there is nothing out there from the tiny speck of a speck of a speck of area that humanity has examined is very shortsighted.
