Thanks bookchick, that is interesting info on how the DVD's are manufactured.. the other big issue is manufacturing scale.. the fact that every PC is shipped with a DVD burner and DVD movie sales took of are what drove down DVD costs, and I think this battle will come down to who can get to low cost first.. Sony is betting Playstation 3 can create that effect for Blu-ray and put it ahead.. while Microsoft and Intel are betting on PC's to do it.. Yep, I think PC's are trend setters. I just wish that the costs were driven differently, making technology (changes) more affordable. Without thinking it through much, I wonder if they (mfr's) would make more money selling at a reasonable cost that the masses can afford, right up front; or selling high in the beginning and waiting for a couple of years until the next technology arrives before dropping the price. I really hate that they wait. Many of us are already behind the times by the time the next greatest thing hits the market. |
