Hi y'all! I still love you guys, even if I haven't been clipping as much as I'd like to of late.

While the Commies may be keeping me away from the Pakistani border, as originally planned, I've just come upon the lovely opportunity to travel to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

That means I'll be putting my feet up in a houseboat on Lake Dal, fishing in high mountain valleys, and all this without having to give up my hobby of hanging out with Islamic terrorists.

I guess sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too!

If anyone here is in Srinigar next month, let me know and I'll buy you a cup of tea!

Glad to hear from you. I was worried with the earthquake. I didn't know where you were, exactly. Glad to see you are okay, and clipping.

Considering that I got back from Jaipur about a month or so ago, I guess I too was hanging out with Islamic terrorists. But I didn't know it at the time. You at least have the fortune to know that you are. Bonne Chance. Have a good time in India and remember, South Asia is not linear.

Hahaha, I love the non-linear bit. It's an essential counterpoint to East Asia, where everything runs on a grid.

How was Jaipur? Originally I was going to hit Rajastan and Gujarat, but the opportunity to head north came up, and its rare that conditions are calm enough to make it, so I'm gonna go for it.

By the way, everyone, yes, I'm fine. I'm in Beijing, a thousand miles from the earthquake. Safe and sound, although it is profoundly upsetting. Thanks for your concern, and don't forget to donate to the aid: a couple of dollars still go a long way in rural China. For these people, $10 would feel like $100 in America.

And while you're at it, please please please, everyone, send five bucks ...

Jaipur was wonderful as was my tour of Rajasthan. Wonderful old crumbling castles and a ton of history. And clean air to boot! I have a hotel recommendation (~US$25/night) if you go.

Agree on the earthquake. I landed in Hong Kong the day of the quake (leave today) and I have not been able to read a front page of a paper without some grieving. I finally had to stop as I could not accomplish my work with the constant supply of images of dead children.

How do you, as a Buddhist, make sense of it?
