zasel says: First we read of dilapidated and inferior medical facilities at Walter Reed, and now and Iowa Veteran's hospital is accused of harassing an Orthodox Jewish patient over his religious beliefs. What the hell is going on with our system? When did the right wing religious nuts get so entrenched in various aspects of our government activities? Walter Reed of course, had nothing to do with religion, but the Iowa case certainly does, and there have been so many other reports about religious harassment occurring at West Point etc. Thank you Saint Ronald Reagan for introducing these people into government during your two terms in office. I fear we will be feeling their intrusion for many years to come. As one who is not a Christian, nor of any identified religion, I can fully understand that I would very likely be hounded by some zealot chaplain were I stuck in such a sitution. While I would be totally offended by such an effort, I would expect it, but still I would write it off to his individual mindless conviction. I would not, however, expect the institutionalized harrassment David Miller encountered, nor would I sit still for it. You can rest assured that every investigative news show and magazine I could contact would have a full report of each and every occurance I experienced, hounding them until such time as the story was given the weight of exposure it deserves. As an expert on religion, I can state authoritatively that starving a person has historically produced poor results in terms of conversion. If trying to feed a Jew pork is how they try to convert someone, I'd hate to think of the pickup lines they would use if they're trying to get a date! A "hard sell for Christian fundamentalism" at a Vet medical facility. Ayuh, whutta load of steaming objectionables. No, I don't think it's legal, either. I did track this back to the Navy Times article, and see that he later "outlined his complaints at a news conference in Des Moines on Thursday. The event was sponsored by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation", and that he "has been classified as 100 percent disabled because of chronic painful problems with kidney stones, and he has repeatedly visited the center as a patient and outpatient." What I didn't understand is why he had to deal with this for repeated visits as well as for "three hospitalizations over the past two years", f... |
