After just watching the documentary on Dr. Temple Grandin that ALTLIB posted here on Clipmarks, this clip is especially compelling.
Losing the gifts that autistic people have brought to the world would be an immense tragedy. In Dr. Temple Grandin's case, it would have meant continued needless suffering for many of the worlds animals. Her contribution to our knowlege in the areas of animal welfare, language and autism itself have simply blown my mind!! What an incredible person!

Is there an "autism gene"?

My gut tells me it isn't a gene, but mutations caused from chemicals and dead, processed, not real foods.

Or the staggering amounts of mercury and other toxins that both pregnant women and babies are subjected to.

Once you open your eyes to the horror of the modern chemical age it is really hard to not begin to see connections.

Anyway, as with all things, the people that will be able to afford to do this are the same people that have fewer kids and the ability to send their kids to real schools where learning, and the ability to think, is taught. Not the public schools the rest of us have.

Autism or not, we can ill afford to squander any genius that might hold key benefits to this needy species.
If we're using less than 20% of our mental capacity, in general, then fear, jealousy, ignorance, vanity and even convenience should not prevail in this decision. And what gives us the right, anyway? That said, I still cannot impose my will on anyone else's right to choose their own destiny.

I can understand testing so you can be prepared to care for your child but not just so you can abort if you can't handle a child that's not "normal'
