Are these people trying to be revisionists? The pictures of the artwork in the wikipedia article are from the 13th and 15th century... from holy books. It was sanctioned back then to show muhammad, there was no religious law against it. That all changed in the 16th century I believe, which is why he is shown as veiled in the later depictions. We should honor the historical changes of religions, not try to forget them and pretend like they did not happen to fit in with the current dogma.

With all do respect to comments, isn't this what co-existence is about.

Muslims didn't protest image posted of Darwin, but their beloved prophet.

I'm sorry Wikipedia is not respecting their requests. Too bad.

Medisland, Mohammad is not only the "beloved prophet" of Muslims. He's also one of the very important figures of world history. So non-Muslims can't (and shouldn't) be forced to be so touchy to avoid using images of him, like the believers do. Those pictures don't disdain, humiliate or insult Mohammad (on contrary, they were drawn by faithful Muslims). Respect is one thing, bigotry is another. Muslims can choose not to draw images of the prophet (nor look at the drawn ones) and I respect it. But they can't force others to approach the world history/culture like a believer does. This intolerance of Muslims around the world, gives Islam a bad name, I believe.

How do they know it is really the image of Mohammed? Does anyone know what Mohammed looked like? How do they know it's not God's will that Mohammed's image is there?

Dear Invictus, everyone should be free to use whatever picuters or drawings they like, but not on the Main Wikipedia page & not on the Main page, Muhammad!. In fact, if any one is to be concerened are the Muslims, caz here's a page defining their most respected figure to the world.

You agree with me that Wikipedia is not by Non Muslims to Non Muslims. It doesn't say it anywhere.

Muslims as a belief are ought to not figure-ize any of the Prophets (peace be upon them all), nor their companions. Thnx 4 ur understanding reply.

Muslims as a belief
That is a misguided belief, it has no justification at all.

Once again countless resources are consumed, brilliant minds put to work, and thousands of people's emotions run high, but NOT because of child abuse, world poverty or global pollution, but instead about whether it's ok to show images of a historical figure.

I'm of the opinion "each to their own", but sometimes I have very little patience for those who seem incapable of seeing the forest for the trees.
