The battlefields have always been, as i see it, between systems of validation. For the future to differ from our past, i would like to see more of personal interest and investment in understanding those systems and making clear and informed choices regarding them, and hence, regarding ourselves.

I think we agree on that. I haven't read beyond the clip, so my comment relates to the quoted part only. In this sense, as you say, I think the difference begins with the depth of validation we as individuals take upon ourselves.
