There are a few holes in The Northern Territory that were made from falling rocks. The forces involved must have been huge. Hope I'm not there when the next one hits. Like the photo of the two boys in the meteorite. The other photos are good to. Its good to not live in the era of heavy bombardment. Someday, hopefully, space technology will allow us to save ourselves from the next major impact, which is certainly going to happen if we dont mitigate it on its approach. Then, and probably only until then, will the vast funding for space programs be appreciated. Early detection, preferably decades ahead of time, will be needed. Considering we only analize 5% of the heavens at any given time, there is a great shortfall in the preparedness we need to survive. All things considered, we are worth saving. |
