celestialdancer says: I always knew these were smart birds. The more we research, the more we find we have underrated the abilities of animals. We have a flock of rare yellow tailed black cockatoos who live near us ( very lucky ). One went missing and it's mate came to a nearby tree and called every night for a week. Then the flock turned up, flew round for a day and left. The cockatoo has been coming to the tree once a week for two months calling for it's mate. I've known humans who have not shown anywhere near that grief at the loss of a partner. The bird knows emotions. Yes, we do under estimate the "intelligence" of animals and even trees. Trees don't move so we assume they lack intelligence. "Intelligence" is defined according to human terms and because basically we have no idea of how animals or trees communicate with each other and really have not yet found a way of truly understanding the depth of their "intelligence" we assume we are the "most intelligent and most evolved species" on this planet. This has not sat right with me for quite a while. All our knowledge is biased towards humans, even when we study other creatures. So, we really don't see a balanced view of other life forms and just how "intelligent" they may actually be. We generally tend... I am surprised at how, people who have him as a client, "fear" taking a stand against... |
