Well, the priest making the allegations say that fear of being exposed as gay prevented the cardinal from cracking down on sexual abuse among priests.

Second, when a major institution like the Catholic church promotes homophobia, and its leaders turn out to be gay, that's a story.

(I have no idea if the story is true, but the Voice's reporting seems solid, especially with regards to Bishop Hubbard)
