Wow. WTH? I sure hope you get to the bottom of things. I was trying to clip this at the time and I thought that I broke it. Whew!

A DDOS attack on Clipmarks? That's pretty lame. You guys really don't deserve this.
Good luck.
Let's hope it doesn't happen again (we have another friday the 13th in July).

Why in the world would anybody do that to Clipmarks?
I'm just glad the site is back up now. My day isn't complete without it.

The usual "sick minds" of the online world again. But on the other hand, it shows one more thing: If Clipmarks became the target of a massive DoS attack, it means CM began to be seen as a "rising star" and a widely known important international site by the veteran hackers. If you were a DoS "organizer", would you attack to an insignificant, marginal site? Or would you choose a widely known, important portal?

Wow! I missed everything. My computer has been in the shop for 2 days! First place I check in at is right here at the Clip. I had spyware, viruses, and screwed up registry entries, even with all my protection. I'm the only one in the house who goes wandering around the Internet.

Sure glad you guys were on top of this.

It's a scary world in cyberspace.

mousie...that thought crossed my mind too; that one of my clips had ruined the entire site! Wheew, I feel better. But "thousands of computers at one time"? That's really odd.

You know, I experienced a feeling yesterday which I never experienced before: having a computer on and not being able to visit Clipmarks. It felt like my computer was broken or something. Well, I hope you guys get to the source of this attack.

In all honesty (and i know this might sound weird coming from me), but the site being down really did make me appreciate it more. A few hours before we got the site back up, Derek was able to get our dev site up. When i looked at it, i was like, "man, this is a great web site."

Not looking to beat our own chests, but as you all know, i'm as much a user of clipmarks as i am a creator of it (i sound like that guy from the hair club for me)...and i really did appreciate it more after not being able to access it for a while.

thanks for the encouragement and understand everyone!

No apologies necessary, Eric... but I'm certainly for applying Stalinist techniques to these losers. There needs to be an agency that runs these people down and gives them some seriously stiff penalties... Perhaps 10 years for each offense... with another 2 added for each time they get caught using a public Net. Maybe that would slow them down a bit.

I'm glad you got the issue resolved, but irritating to no end that you guys have to even deal with these idiots.

The REAL Napster
It is very strange that this site was DOS attacked, indeed.
There is no money to be made here or lost, so their motivation was either one of proving a point, or they were simply bored. People don't build bot nets to attack a small bookmarking community, not when there are fatter, richer targets to use those on. Thousands of computers?
Hopefully you reported the incident to the FBI. If you didn't then your hosting company should have since it went through their routers to get to your server.

Congrats! On being attacked, you have reached a new milestone.

Now that's seeing the glass half-full BitDrifter

The REAL Napster, we are definitely dealing with it. Appreciate the advice.

Well, it is good to know Clipmarks is strong enough to survive such an attack. Congratulations!
I wonder if the "hack" of my account was related. Did you have any other reports of account problems?
Having my profile modified and partially deleted and my avatar changed from my eye to what I though was a panther eye was a real surprise. Now I think it was a black cat eye, more in tune with Friday 13.
Well, I restored my pasword and my eye now.
