ratilfar says: First part of the series. The whole movie can be seen here: http://complexsystemofpipes.wordpress.com/2007/08/23/war-on-democracy/ Hugo - democracy's champion, and a winner I have my doubts about Hugo Chavez, but that does not justify what the U.S. has tried to do to him and more importantly to Venezuela. Did you ever see the documentary by RTE "Inside the Coup" or "This coup will never be televised"? No I can't say I have. The war on democracy is a war worth waging. I just watched the whole movie and it is well worth the time. It can also be found in it's entirety on Google Video: The War On Democracy by John Pilger. Great find ratilfar. What I really found shocking was the scenes from the bridge, and how easily they where manipulated to victimize the men protecting the crowd from the snipers with nothing but handguns. That takes a lot of guts. The bridge scenario really made it clear too, how easily we can be manipulated by the media (and governments) and how they can twist things around and tell us just what they want. What was a portrayed as an attack by the people on the bridge by the media and even looked that way in the news reports, was in actual fact pure defense, with no-one under the bridge at all! Just the snipers around on the buildings! It really makes one aware, that the so-called "hard evidence" we sometimes are presented with via film coverage of different events on TV, may not be so straight forward and evident at all. Sobering indeed and scary too, since the media is pretty much the only link we have between gover... Also, handguns are nearly uses at more than close range, any crowd been fired upon would have run so fast away from the shooters as to be relatively safe in a matter of minutes (barring people been trampled of course or left behind). I was once in such a situation and it is freighting beyond belief. "useless" OMG, what a harrowing experience! Well I'm glad you made it through ratilfar and survived to tell the tale. CM just wouldn't be the same without you. Thanks...Running for your life amidst a mob is not fun, to say the least. It more of a riot situation, a riot cause by the police firing gas canisters and attacking the crowd with batons. They claimed that some kids had chucked bottles and rocks at them, but still charging a crowd that number in the tens of thousands on narrow city streets is no way to go. |
