reddogiedog says: Un-freaking-believable: This should really really curry both admiration and business among the good ole boys redneck crowd This is outrageous. Who does he think he is anyway? The government should swoop in there and force him to hire a full time interpreter. Who cares if it drives up his prices or drives him out of business? What does he think this is, America? See, right on cue, there is one now.l Yes, I am an American. So let me ask you this. If you walked into a restaurant and they had a sign that said they only provided service in a language which you didn't speak what would you do? Myself, my first instinct wouldn't be to find a lawyer and sue. After all, I don't believe having someone else make my lunch is a right. I would simply go somewhere else. I have been to a number of countries, and at times there were problems because I couldn't speak the local language. But I never had a problem eventually finding someone who had what I wanted and who wanted my money. Yeah, thats right this is America, so speak Navajo, or wait... Speak whatever language you wish, just stop trying to use the courts to force others to speak it as well. I stopped going into places that had a sign in the window that said "Spanish spoken here" Yup sounds about right (redneckedly speaking) Looky here folks, a Orval Faubus, George Wallace reincarnation!!!! I don't care how many or what languages they speak as long as English is on the list. And what happens if they don't speak English? BTW, Red, do they big bad masked banditos scare ya? I thought I had the right to spend my money where I wanted and I will continue to do so. Oh, you sure do. But you didn't answer my question. What makes such a place not suitable of your patronage? Is the language or the clientèle or the goods? Maybe next time you got a "Americana" theme resturant like "T.G.I.F." take a peek at the kitchen, better yet tale a listen. My guess is that Spanish is spoken there and they don't have a sign up front saying so. Or what the restaurant said "Italian" or "Chinese" or "Japanese" spoken here. would that be enough for you not to eat there? I agree with n2sooners on this one. The language is English and if someone wants special considerations then they need to bring their own translator. rat, those are THEMED restaurants. If one has so much depth to speak only that specific language then they are going to have only the most dedicated American customers. Most are going to go to places that offer the same thing but speak in English. But most of those cultural restaurants do that only to add diversity to the choice of food. "Here, have Japanese/Thailand/German/Greek/etc food right here in America! Foreign food with American comfort!". Customers are not going there to hear the language but to enjoy the food. If a business chooses... Very good points ratilfar. In my country the language "spoken here" generally means in addition to the official languages of the nation. Oh jeez, I just noticed this clip came from Anne Coulter's sick sister Michelle Malkin. @socratload konechno prosche govorit tomu kto ponimayet, esli be ti zashel kuda nibud i ne ponimal ne slova, i viglyadel bi kak polniy idiot - ya uveren ti bi pel pesnyu drugimi slovami. tvoya ideologia zabiviet tvoy mozg i ne pozvolyaet tebe smotret na veschi logichno. ya uveren chto ti navernoe hotel bi ponyat chto zdes napisano, no bez perevodchika - ne ochen ponyatno, net? nevozmozhno imet razgovor s kemto, esli ti ich ne ponimaesh... i eto tochno pochemu imeya odin yazik v stranye kak glavniy imeet polniy smisl. Hopefully you get the point? If not - don't feel bad, not the first or the last time, I'm sure... I'm quite sure Rush Numb-Nuts Limbaugh shares the same point of view. And what happens if they don't speak English?I go somewhere else. What I don't do is hire a lawyer and try to force them to speak English just for me. Having lived for varying amounts of time on every continent except Antarctica and therefore understanding enough not to feel paralyzed by xenophobic fear or hate , I therefore do get the point, with one exception: I feel bad because there are too many people on the Right who surely would repeal both the twentieth and twenty first centuries given half a chance I wonder if reddogie only buys products made in the United States of America. And by the way Mexicans, Costa Ricans, Brazilians, Argentines, Canadians, Panamanians, El Salvadorians, Peruvians, Bolivians, Nicaraguans, Uruguayans, and many others are Americans (if you want to speak English correctly). Are the xenophobic conservatives not eating a tomato, head of lettuce, grape, or any other immigrant picked food product today? We have to be the laziest, most self-centered country on the planet. Can't even spend a few minutes a day to learn some Spanish. No wonder other countries think of us as ignorant asses. Panamanians are now going to mandate teaching their school kids Chinese making those that go to school trilingual. We have to be the laziest, most self-centered country on the planet. Can't even spend a few minutes a day to learn some Spanish. No wonder other countries think of us as ignorant asses.Quite an ironic comment made under a clip about a man who had to put up a sign because too many of his customers couldn't even spend a few minutes a day learning enough English to order a sandwich. Actually studies have shown that xenophobic conservatives worries are very overblown. 88% of first generation immigrant children spoke English at a high level. The second generation speak 98% English at a high level. The US of A is not endager of losing English as its national language without it being required by law. What a joke if all the citizens of the USA had to speak in the native tongue of the countries that they travel to on vacation. I can't even imagine it. Next time you step over to your local Indian casino there in Oklahoma n2 I expect you to be speaking Cherokee or Choctaw. I doubt that he was "forced" to put up the sign. Where is the evidence of that? So, what you guys are saying is you believe that all businesses should be forced by the government to serve every person no matter what their language? Now every business must hire people that can speak ever possible language because if they don't offer services to anyone because of their language (not race, but language) then that is racist? Because that is what this man is being charge with. Wow. Simply because Rush or Anne Coulter or anyone else that a person might consider distasteful happens to agree on something with you doesn't automatically mean that what you accept is wrong. Even a broken watch is right 2 times a day. Should I dislike a nice hot shower because Limbagh does? Should I refuse to donate to the same charities that Coulter does? @ RecordSage If I truly had a desire to understand what you had typed then either I'd ask someone to translate or learn the language. And if what you had to say was extremely important that you felt you had to convey what you said to me (or anyone else) then you'd find someone to translate, or since being in America you'd learn the la... @n2 It is discriminatory to refuse service to an individual in a public dinning establishment based on their ethnicity and English skills. I'm appalled that you are not aware of that. What a place Oklahoma must be. Does a Restaurant Have the Unrestricted Right to Refuse Service to Specific Patrons? No! The Civil Rights Act of 1964 explicitly prohibits restaurants from refusing service to patrons on the basis of race, color, religion, or natural origin. In addition, most courts don’t allow restaurants to refuse service to patrons based on extremely arbitrary conditions. For example, a person likely can’t be refused service due to having aprostedic leg. He didn't refuse service based on race, color, religion, or natural origin. He refused service based on the customers inability to place an order. It is NOT his responsibility to hire translators for every possible language that enters his store which is exactly what he would have to do to meet your criteria. It seems plain to me Bobby. This whole distasteful defense of redneckism is nothing more than that. "He didn't refuse service based on race, color, religion, or natural origin. He refused service based on the customers inability to place an order. It is NOT his responsibility to hire translators for every possible language that enters his store which is exactly what he would have to do to meet your criteria." For starters he could throw the insulting sign away and begin acting like a mature compassionate human being. I've been in some pretty wild and woolly p-arts of this tired old planet and have NEVER been refused service because I did not speak the local language And yet there in the "land of the free" you will fight tooth and nail to defend this jerks right to continue being an asshole. It boggles my mind And yet there in the "land of the free" you will fight tooth and nail to defend this jerks right to continue being an asshole. You mean the same way people fight to allow people to start fires in city limits as long as the fuel for that fire is Old Glory? Or the way people promote as art a jar full of urine with a submerged cross? @n2sooners, don't be so damned asinine The political nature of the discrimination is the main point, evidenced by the sign, the smug smile on the owner's face, and the disregard for loss of income from non-English speakers. I presume that he would not point to the sign and refuse service to a deaf customer. Or would he? "Wow. Simply because Rush or Anne Coulter or anyone else that a person might consider distasteful happens to agree on something with you doesn't automatically mean that what you accept is wrong. Even a broken watch is right 2 times a day. Should I dislike a nice hot shower because Limbagh does? Should I refuse to donate to the same charities that Coulter does?" Touche Socratoad said:Is that because they are forced to serve you by law or it was in their best interest to try and understand you to get your money? The power of profit is strong. Frankly, I think you are making more of this than what it is - its not about refusing service, its about running a business. If the patrons demanded Saki should the owner be forced to provide it because that is their cultural preference? Should there be a side menu for Thai food? Or even a children's menu? These are choices that a business can make to capi... Oklahoma is a joke. What a disgrace that someone like n2 can get all bent out of shape about language in a state where they stole Indian land. What is a sooner? Look at the definition it's a cheater. Someone who violated law to steal land from Indians sooner than everyone else. The jerk in this article is in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Law. Period. The dufuss in this article sells one thing, Cheesesteaks, and he can't figure out what someone is ordering? Pathetic. I guess we should have kicked his parents immigrant butts out way long ago. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Pub.L. 88-352, 78 Stat. 241, July 2, 1964) was a landmark legislation in the United States that outlawed di... But at Pat's, the rival steak stall just across the road, manager Tom Francona has a different philosophy. "We serve everyone here," he said. "It doesn't matter if you speak English or any language. If you need help getting through a cheese steak order, we'll help you. "This is a multicultural neighbourhood now. We have a range of different people now. We have to teach them. We can teach them to say cheese steak." To hell with Geno's (My remark). It's too much trouble to assist someone with the one choice that has to be made at his restaurant? Do you want Cheese Whiz, Provolone or American? Absolutely pathetic. This boils down to... The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) was established in 1952. The Commission is mandated by the Home Rule Charter to enforce the Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance. The Ordinance prohibits discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and the provision of City services. It is unlawful to discriminate in these areas because of race, color, gender, religion, age (excluding public accommodations) sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, and disability. In housing, it is also unlawful to discriminate because of marital status, the source of income, and the presence of children. In addition, the Commission reduces and prevents intergroup ten... The Rev. James Allen, the chairperson of Commision on Human Relations, was the first witness to testify late this afternoon, followed by University of Pennsylvania professor Camille Charles. Charles, a professor of sociology, said the number of foreign-born residents living in the South Philadelphia neighborhood near Geno's grew more than 200 percent between 1980 and 2000. When shown historical signs from the Jim Crow era in the South that read "Whites Only," Charles said Vento's "Speak English" sign had the same impact on patrons. The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations decided to charge that Vento discriminated against non-English speakers. The commission alleges that Vento's s... Wait, its an "Italian" restaurant? BobbyRutan said:LOL. Like whatever place your ancestors came from wasn't ultimately stolen from someone else. The jerk in this article is in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Law. Period.Oh, he is not. You are trying so hard to make something out of this when there is nothing to be made. If he were violating someone's rights under the Civil Rights Law then he'd be refusing service to all Italians, Jews, Germans, Blacks, Women, Men, or whatever group you want. Instead he is refusing service to those that he cannot understand, just as if someo... Oortcloud, you don't understand Civil Rights Laws very well. Thats all right remain ignorant. It works well for a lot of people. Ultimately it will be decided in Philadelphia and not here. I would suggest Geno's accepts the fact that there are other people on this planet than just English speakers and thus "Get Over It". Discrimination is not something to take lightly, it belittles all of us. I know exactly what civil rights are. The problem is that you don't recognize when it is relevant or not. This is not a civil rights issue. Sadly, this doesn't make you ignorant, which can be cured with knowledge, it just makes you incorrect. I would suggest Geno's accepts the fact that there are other people on this planet than just English speakersYour complete gross exaggeration of the situation is actually pretty comical. Add to the fact that you cannot make a post without adding base insults effectively demonstrates your level of intellect. This alone demonstrates your inability to grasp the situation. In case you missed it, this is NOT a civil rights issue but a sim... While I might be wrong that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has been broken it would only be because of a skirting of wording of the act and not the intent of the legislation. As far as the Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance there has already been a finding of probable cause that Geno's owner Vento is in violation. The Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance prohibits discrimination in Public Accomodation. According to the Cornel Law School website, Public Accomidation includes restaurants. The complaint was brief - stating that the English-only rule had the effect of "discouraging patronage by non-English-speaking customers, all because of national origin and/or ancestry." Philadelphia wil... Some would say, a cheesesteak is not a constitutionally protected right, therefore, being denied one really does not mean anything. But, in reality, it is so much more important than that. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (the "CRA") makes it so. According to the CRA, "[a]ll persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin." 42 U.S.C.S. Sec. 2000a(a). It could be credibly argued that language is an indicia of national origin. Some people only speak Spanish, Cambodian or Chinese. To deny... The xenophobia that propels the English-Only movement goes against the history of our nation and is despicable not comical. I'm confident of my understanding.I'm sure you are, but you're still wrong. Here is a definition of xenophobia :
Since the man is quite happy to serve anyone who speaks understandable English then it is not a case of xenophobia. Even if he refused to serve Mexicans or Germans or Jews or any other specific race it would not be xenophobia. Once again, you are over exaggerating usage. At best you could ca... That's true, you cite your opinion. At least I cited the law itself. You obviously missed the part where he was displeased with the changing demographic of the neighborhood. How convenient for you. At least I cited the law itself.Nothing you cited supported your claim. You obviously missed the part where he was displeased with the changing demographic of the neighborhood. How convenient for youYou obviously missed the part where he serves anyone he can understand. How convenient for you. This should really really curry both admiration and business among the good ole boys redneck crowdJust think! If I'd got here before you,..I could have noted how I predict the fascist, commie freedom suppressors will be rollin' in to rejoivce in the leftist crackdown on an independent small businessman. He's got the right to refuse service if he wants but he's not doing that. Yet here are - liberals,(I've got money) - coming down like brownshirt kommandants! Who the hell do you think you are personally attacking ideals of those not like you in this format? Got a little vendetta on fellow clippers, do ya? Own up to your hypocrisy for once. Having lived for varying amounts of time on every continent exceptFor such a wise world traveller, you sure are immature. I take it this was as a child while your parents moved for whatever reason? I would think you'd have learned tolerance for points of vieew other than yours without attacking the person and misapplying hateful labels, and wrongly defining concepts such as zenophobia. You brought in the only element of hate I saw here, - followed by rat. Who the hell are you davboz? I'll comment where ever I damn well please. Freedom suppressors? You get a little frothed up over at freeper land and jump over here for a session? Read the comments above, placing a "right to refuse" sign in your window doesn't preclude you from following the law. No one is putting this jerk out of business, but if he is found guilty of breaking the law the are going to enforce it. Your a laugh riot (Liberals I've got money). 88% of first generation immigrant children spoke English at a highThen let them order a sandwich in English. Those that do speak english well do I'm sure, brainiac. You would have made a good Jim Crower. "Hey their ridin the bus who cares if their in the back". Go read the law. You guys are such big law and order tough guys. This whole distasteful defense of redneckism is nothing more than that.Only thing I can tell is you learned how to be an ass on 4 continents. Suggestion: Take Oortcloud with you to each clip. He'll teach you some REASON. You hit me with the "who the hell are you" I'll follow suit. You aren't particularly noted for having a whole lot of class around here yourself. I find a lot of Oortcloud's clips elightening but (in my opinion) his contention that this is merely a business decision a very weak argument. Most of the South Philly community doesn't agree with him/Vento (he isn't even from the neighborhood he's from Jersey). Link Jeez, c'mon, simpleton. I'm basing that on your claim that so many speak the language. So let them speak it. I should have noted it was a "loose" comment. You WANT to find a target to label with your stupid names. As long as I'm not saying "Go Bobby" or attacking sooners or reddog, you've got me in the "other" camp. It's gotta be either: A=stroking you, or B=on the redneck team. It's always split into 2 teams with some of you people. Far more often, I am put in a camp of fundy Christian, neocon, redneck, bigot, etc, etc. I am so far from those things but you'd never see that because that is what anyone is who disagrees with the likes of you. According to you. Whether they display those 'symptoms' or not. I don't know what group you are and couldn't care less. I'll base my response on your tone. I'm not backing down. If you read english the percentages were for first generation and second generation children and then that wasn't even 100%. That leaves those who don't and the immigrants themselves. Nor are you allowed to discriminate against foreign travelers. Once again go back and read the law. I'm talking about his way of getting thru the topic, and avoiding the ad hominem. I didn't really notice what his final take on the thing was. A lot of these things come down to whether one is going to just look at an issue zoomed way in and have only a black or white view, or you are back a ways and see many aspects to an issue - and the things that are said back and forth. Seeing nuances in things. Trace this back and you'll see who entered with the hate, and the misinterpretation of others views. And it is nearly always similar sources repeatedly. . I'm not backing down.Whatever. Fall down, then. -------------------------adios,carnal. Once again go back and read the law blah.........dude give it a rest. I have confidence it will work out. I've found faaar more insulting to the common intelligence and worrisome in terms of human behavior and intolerance, the discourse right here, than the issue with the sandwich shop guy. If you'll notice, that is nearly all that mattered to me to comment. The clip? pshh! Whatever. Yeah, your pure as the driven snow. I've seen enough of your comments to know differently. For me discrimination is one of the black and white issues (no pun intended). And regardless there are several laws in place relating to this issue. It would be helpful to put an @whomever when you are addressing someone other than the person whose comment you follow. The clip is worn out. Hopefully the South Philly community who would prefer that the sign comes down prevails. The one incident alone might not be powerful but history shows that we have been more tolerant of non-english speakers in our past and now people are succumbing to politicians pushing hate for votes. Getting back to the restaurant topic. Aside all of the philosophical garbage above - if you go to a restaurant and you can't understand what the staff says or have some questions - forget it. Just point with your fingers and hope that it'll be what you think it is. I actually had a little article written here on this very topic, based on a recent experience with this very issue. If you don't speak the language - it's tough to get anything done. Speaking all of the languages is impossible, which means someone somewhere will be left out, pissed off etc. Solution is simple - a single language. ... You entered into the U.S. high school system, you didn't immigrate as an older adult having to work and support a family. It would have been tougher. Immigrant children who get the opportunity to go through the U.S. education learn English very well. It would not be unreasonable to ask or expect that Americans try to at least learn a little bit of the other major language on our continent. If we make it an economic arguement that would make Americans more competitive in business will that make it palatable for you? You're right - I didn't, but my parents sure the heck did. I'm not sure what you mean by 'not unreasonable to ask'? To me it should say - it would be nice to have it widely available to learn, for those who care, but it should NOT be 'asked'. The only thing that should be asked is that English is the language of the land, so everyone living here should be able to speak it, write it and read it, if they want to do well and function normally as Americans. That does make sense. Printing everything in 1 language and not paying for dozen more would save a lot of money. Providing translators for medical needs should be done by family members/friends, not taxpayer dollars. In other words, ju... I think Bobby has simply gone into argumentative mode. Even against immigrants with experiences related to the topic. BobbyRutan said:It would not be unreasonable to ask, but it certainly be unreasonable to demand it, especially in matters that happen within American borders. Well several points here. I don't discount RecordSage's experience. It is a compelling story. However his story is not the entire picture but merely a piece of data in the whole data set. I'm sure that some Russian immigrated to America and either did not learn English or did not learn it well. Might be a small percentage but I am sure those persons exist. I am also willing to bet that you didn't drop all vestiges of your Russian heritage. Here's another story. My father (at age 54) and my mother (at age 47) began studying both French and Spanish of their own accord (no job requirement) while still raising high school kids and working full time. My father became proficient enough that he co... There are a couple of websites that I recommend for reading regarding commonly held myths about multilingual and multicultural societies. Myths about Multilingual Societies Common Myths about Bilingualism Regarding RecordSage's comments about Russia's economy and economic ties with the U.S.A. dwarving those of all Spanish Speaking and Portuguese Speaking countries (since you tossed in Portugal) combined, nothing could be further from the truth. I don't know where you get your statistics but I will list where I get mine. [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_... Engraved on a tablet within the pedestal on which the Statue of Liberty stands is a famous poem. Part of that poem are the following lines: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" I was talking about the potential resources, not current trade. And the poem - very nice... note that it's written in English only. I guess you need to work on your English so I would understand your meaning the first time. Quote, "In terms of economic ties...". I notice the poem doesn't say "Give me your English speakers". So lets get back to basics here, Bobby. Is your argument that all establishments should be forced to learn differing languages and dialects and be forced to provide menus with a plethora of varying languages as well as have someone on hand who can understand each? Or do you simply dislike the idea of a man exercising his right to run his own business the way he wants because it conflicts with what your term as "fair"? Regardless of what you think, this is not a civil rights matter. Even the references that you've provided prove that because he does not discriminate by race, age, sex, gender or ethnicity. The only people he refuses to serve are those that he cant understand. Period. You may... As to whether he is breaking any laws I will leave that up to Philadelphia to decide. Some legal analysts are of the opinion that he is breaking both the Philadelphia Ordinance and the Civil Rights Act (regardless of your opinion). Your constant mentioning of the need to hire a translator is ridiculous. I believe there are only a total of what, 12 options in ordering. With/without onioin, dipped/not dipped in juice, cheese whiz/American/Provolone or maybe it's Swiss. In Japan they have intricate menus that people can point and order from. It would be incredibly easy for Vento to provide a visual menu at next to nothing cost. Vento has previously commented and been quoted that his sign is ... As to whether he is breaking any laws I will leave that up to Philadelphia to decideIf you truly meant that sincerely then you wouldn't have posted anything more after your first opinion. Some legal analysts are of the opinion that he is breaking both the Philadelphia Ordinance and the Civil Rights ActAnd more than some are of the opinion that he is not. I believe there are only a total of what, 12 options in ordering. There are 6,800 known languages across the world. By forcing the translation of one you open the door to demand the translation for all. I'm amazed that you, who keeps crying... 1. My position is clear it didn't need to be restated. You have your opinion I have mine. 2. Some/more than some, nondescript terms that mean very little. 3. Pictures are almost universally understood by everyone. 4. Societies have the right to regulate businesses and will continue to do so. 5. No my last statement is not ridiculous, that is why Jim Crow laws and practices were outlawed. I can think of nothing more ridiculous than the idea that anyone can do anything they damn well please in running a company. Additional information: Vento's grandparents were immigrants who came to America and never learned English. They were not kicked out of the country. [url=http://abcnews.go.com/GMA... My position is clear it didn't need to be restated. You have your opinion I have mine.See, the problem here is you think we are two people of differing opinion. That is not the case. I am not expressing an opinion. Vento has not broken any laws. Some/more than some, nondescript terms that mean very little. So it means something if you try to make a point but when I quantify/qualify the statement its suddenly pointless. We call that back-pedaling. Pictures are almost universally understood by everyone.Who needs pictures when both people speak the local language? Tell ya what, take 2 guys allergic to onions and give them each a menu. 1 guy can rea... Whatever, Oortcloud, I didn't realize you were a judge in the Philadelphia circuit. Some/more than some doesn't quantify anything. I don't know exactly how many people feel one way and I'm sure you do not either. Societies have the right to regulate businesses and will continue to do so, means exactly what I want it to mean. How arrogant of you to believe you know what my intentions are. In comments above I cited the passages of the Philadelphia Ordinance and the Civil Rights Law that is believed to be violated. I don't know how I can be more specific. Sorry if you feel I didn't do my job to bring you up to speed in what has already been said. Feel free to read the comments. Yes, there is no point in going on any further. @bobbyrutan, It's cute, although hypocritical, of you to propose me working on my English, considering what you're trying to push in this thread. As for the poem, the fact that it's in English, which was all I noted, still stands as is, regardless of how convoluted your view on it might be. One could easily state that there were no references in the poem about non-English, although that wasn't related to the comment I made on the subject. Capish? @RS It's certainly not hypocritical making you live up to your own standards. You are the hypocrite. There are no binding rules about what statements I can make, and in my observation the poem never says "Give me your English speakers". Capish? @BR Apparently having English doesn't make up for other lacks, which you so brilliantly indicate time and again. I was in Philly when this made the news back in the summer of 2006. I think this is getting a little over blown. The owner's intent was to make a statement which he has the right to do. He says he has never turned anyone away because they couldn't speak English. I was at Geno's behind some Japanese tourists who could not speak English very well, They pointed at the menu for what they wanted, but they couldn't understand the guy's questions about what cheese to put on their steak. Another customer helped them out (they got whiz). A smart business man will not refuse money just because they can't speak the language. Reminds me of Eddie Izzard talking about how the rest of Europe learns mult... Years ago in Toronto one sometimes saw signs that read, " NO JEWS, DOGS, or IRISHMEN ALLOWED.
