competent candidates, but the new analysis reveals people can forge steadfast

When the researchers compared the subjects' choices to votes
cast in real two-party gubernatorial elections, Todorov said shallow judgments
of competence explained about 9 percent of the voting choices. He said a
candidate's incumbency, by comparison, typically explains about 20 to 30
percent of gubernatorial votes.
