chestnut501 says: This is a very informative article that you may want to read if you live in a high risk area I live approximately 70 miles northwest of New Madrid and am well aware of the danger in the New Madrid earthquake zone. And yes, we as a whole in the area are unprepared as the article states. But the rest of the USA better worry more as most of the natural gas pipelines, oil/gas pipelines run underground through this area. The rest of the country may get mighty cold if a big one hits, as they'll be off pipeline for quite a while. And if the Mississippi changes course, (bridges will fail) likely a lot of grain, material shipped on the Mississippi/Ohio/Missouri rivers will not happen either. We've basically been told by state, federal and county governments that we'll be on our own for ... And the good news is???? Satchamo, I really don't know how much we can do as individuals to prepare for an earthquake. Because we have no warning system, it makes it all that much worse. You mentioned the pipelines and it reminds me of a movie I saw of an earthquake hitting somewhere in California where pipelines were breaking and bursting into flames. I wouldn't live in California. |
