bookchick49 says: Worth noting:: "In addition, the offspring of some GM plants are sterile, which means they cannot be stored to grow future crops. Poor farmers thus become dependent on transnational companies, and are forced to buy new seeds every year." @bookchick49, yes, good quote, this is an enormous problem as it has basically made traditional modes of subsistance farming almost impossible in many areas. As oil and gas reserves dwindle, natural-gas-based fertilizers and pesticides get more expensive, and industrial agriculture gets less feasible, we're all going to wish we'd thought about these policies a little more carefully. That's just biological DRM. Isn't that covered by the DMCA? An interesting selection. It's amazing how many ways they can use to describe unbelievable corruption in the third world. |
