@bookchick49, yes, good quote, this is an enormous problem as it has basically made traditional modes of subsistance farming almost impossible in many areas. As oil and gas reserves dwindle, natural-gas-based fertilizers and pesticides get more expensive, and industrial agriculture gets less feasible, we're all going to wish we'd thought about these policies a little more carefully.
