coconutshell says: Details and what each equation is are at the source. Ironically, it's about 42 minutes one way. 42 all the way!! so THIS is what Douglas Adams was on about all along! When the person came out the other side of the earth, at what distance would he or she come out before they fell back in? At what speed would they be going at the time of exit? Assuming the person started exactly at ground level, the height that they would rise to on the other side would be exactly ground level. They'd basically be a mirror image of their starting position. At the exact time when they reach this position, their speed will be zero, but they will be accelerating back towards the centre of the planet, so unless something stops them, they will go straight back down the hole and off back to the other side. This entire article assumes zero air resistance. If it took this into account, the traveller would never make it to the other side. Reminded me of,"What's goes around, Comes around!" I am lost! The law of entropy suggests a principle of diminished, returns, so it would be a good idea to carry a torch. It would be a rush when you got to the middle. They talk about terminal velocity, I wonder if It's fast enough to burn up. I think a hole in the moon would be a lot safer. They could even sell tickets.- Just don't touch the sides So if air resistance was included into the equation where would the person stop? If gravity was a factor then where does it end? Yes pokkets I agree do it on the moon. lol What about the very hot core? The core was not included into the factor! If it was your a?? would be on fire way before you got to the center. lol WISH we could build a slid right through earth and slid on it. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! lol I dunno,I just think coconutshell is really attractive and I'll pop whatever she posts. *sigh* She is a hottie! I'm going to pop this again. POP ! |
