Passed yesterday. Almost no mention of it. All efforts to halt or limit the war deleted. News report confusing.

The leaders of the Democratic Party appear to believe, as others have suggested, that there best way to win the most in the 2008 elections is to NOT do anything to oppose the war -- because that might backfire against them.

Yet, take advantage of the fact there IS strong anti-war feelings that will hurt the Republican Party. (With an assumption that the anti-war "lefties & liberals," have no choice but to vote for them anyhow; since there is no way the "lefties & liberals" would vote Republican.

This COULD BE very astute, and the way candidate/Senator Hillary Clinton would like the most, she being a "centralist," and not wanting to be labeled "lefty or liberal."

Those who die between now and then are dying for politics 2008.

Also in today's news: Obama was a drug dealer.

Read your bio and totally agree...We're in for the long haul and i see no light at the of the tunnel yet, despite all this talk of "Change" and "hope". If the Dem front runners are for a huge military, What's gonna change? We need fundamental sweeping out of the corpo-fascists that really run this country and I doubt that Hillary owns that broom or wants one. Obama also supports a huge military, altho he may just be sayin' that not to offend anybody....but I don't trust that kind of political expediency, either. We're screwed.

Ah...I'm noted for perhaps 'beating a dead horse,' as far as voting for better leaders (among other things.) -- voting for better leaders and kicking out the bad ones and the warmongers when and where we can.

That doesn't mean there are good choices. That doesn't mean things will change much. That doesn't mean the world or the political system will suddenly all be to our liking. Nope, not at all.

Bummer, isn't it? I hated to hear this myself but there is some truth to the expression that "progress in politics is often a game of inches."

Sort of like football. You don't get a touchdown every play. Don't get a first down every play. May not like the weather. May only make progress one yar...

Obama a Drug dealer? Who knows that the Taliban in Afghanistan, virtually eliminated opium cultivation and production. Now it has grown beyond pre Taliban levels. Why? "We can't get the people to grow another crop that is as lucrative as opium"
What a load of shit.
Opium production was re-established because of it's contribution to the world economy. There is a fortune in opium, and who benefits from mass worldwide transfers of money. The Finance sector.
The $700 Billion ? It's only somebody else's money.
Congress passing such Laws is just a means of redistribution. Steal from the poor to give to the rich. Well perhaps 'give' is the wrong word.

Very insightful. Also the fact that we heard the Taliban was growing opium was one of the bad things about them; now there is more opium being grown.

Not much heard either about the history of The Opium Wars by the British in China: They forced China to accept opium.

Interesting implications in all this. I'll have to read more. I do recall a Vietnamese General saying, thought: "To win the war you have to control the drugs."
