Problems with religion seems to arise from a religious group claiming historical validity for its mythology. If religions just said straight out "Our stories are mythical, not historical" and yet they can teach us something important, then, we wouldn't be so tied up with one religion's "history" being "true" to the exclusion of all others.

People should read less scripture and more Joseph Campbell.
