I think Greenspan left just because he realized things are going to get worse - no matter what he tried. Greenspan was a financial genius - and earned every penny of his job. Hopefully this new guy has the preserverance Greenspan had and also nerves of Titanium. ever ask yourself if Greenspan is the reason we are in a "freaking emerging nightmare" I wouldn't put blame on Greenspan - I think he is just the gatekeeper and stablizer. Since he has endured 18 years and various administrations, it would seem he was placed there long ago to try to maintain some type of balance. Whether he succeeded or not I don't really know. I do think the present state of the economy both nationally and internationally is a nightmare just waiting to scrare the world to death. One thing to consider is how much non-US money is in our banks. Look what happened with Iran pulling all its assets from EU banks.
