USAns are quite expert at denying racism, especially when it's obvious. An honest discussion about race would lead to a discussion about unearned white privilege and too many people are invested in that; and not just white folks (see: Michelle Malkin, Juan Williams, Ward Connerly, Clarence Thomas, et.al.).
