The repudiation of this typical Republican attempt to re-derect attention with a blown-up threat to democracy is nothing new. Don't worry, Mickey Mouse ain't gonna show up anywhere and vote. The only thing ACORN might be guilty of is hiring some not very honest people to canvas for voter registration. They did exactly what the law required by submitting Mickey's registration with a flag to show that it was a phony. There's a big difference between voter registration fraud, and voting fraud, but I guess most people who have already made up their minds on this subject do no care about the facts. People outside the US who have bought into the appealingly reductive anti-Americanism rhetoric of recent years, will have to rethink some of their basic assumptions about our country. This will be particularly true among those on the European left who may want to stop and ask themselves what it tells them about the US, and their own countries, that somebody like Barack Obama will be our leader.
