invictus says: I wouldn't like to be there to take this photo. Yikes! Hello Invictus, I have a tendency to doubt the authenticity of this image. Based on what I know (very little) and what I've personally experienced in the past (re tornado), I am having a difficult time with the fact that everything else in the image is standing still. One would think that a tornado at this range, would have the trees bent in half or at least ripped from the ground. I highly doubt that the barn would be standing too. Tornadoes can play hop scotch but they still leave debri in their wake. She either post manipulated this image; had a telephoto lense on her camera; or I don't know jack about tornado activity. (I think all of the above). LOL Regardless, I can tell you ... Hi bookchick. The photographer probably used a powerful telephoto lens (my guess is a "f 500-1000" zoom lens with zoom-in all the way - which suggests an approximately 35X zoom factor.) So the distance between the barn and the tornado is seen as if it was less than 100 meters, because of the depth lose. I believe the actual distance was more than 1 kilometer when the photo was taken. I find a "retouch" very unlikely because it's an official AP Photo and I think the editors would have noticed the forgery before releasing the photo story. ok, well that explains a lot! |
