zasel says: Mixed feelings on this one kids. Obama has been very reluctant to keep his promises to the LGBT community. He has kicked DADT to the back burner, and there is no indication of when he will begin the process of repealing DOMA. The natives are restless. I am still taking a wait and see attitude, and I do have fairly high hopes.......for now. I think the man came into office with a high load of priorities, primarily economic. If this country doesn't get these in order, nobody's rights will matter because we won't have a country to support them. We all need to be patient when it comes to a larger focus on the social ills, while our country is digging itself out from the immediate crisis. Actually I agree with you Wic, but the tipping point for many in the LGBT community was the government's defense of DOMA earlier in the week. I recognize that the gov't must support existing laws, but they used the same ignorant and hateful language the Bush administration employed, such as comparing same-sex relationships to incest and pedophilia. That is a bridge too far. Here's the bigger issue rather than Obama finding the time to focus on America while the World Apology Tour 2009 is going on: During the ELECTION, he said that he was a strong advocate for the LGBT community. Not only was that a lie, he laughed at gay protesters, and blew them off recently over a 7 course meal with the Democrats of 90210. You know, the common man, the wealthy celebs in L.A.'s gated community. This is a perfect illustration of Obama’s priorities. He can pass a Porkulus bill in 3 days - and in VIOLATION of his own campaign promises about public transparency and accountability - because Pork is a priority for him. Destroying capitalism is a priority. Helping gay men and wom... Thanx for your comments Clip-on. I am not a one issue voter. Yes, I am highly pissed thus far with his reluctance to tackle the LGBT promises he made, but I have not given up......yet. I prefer his agenda than that of the mean-spirited Republicans. Believe it or not, for many years I was a die-hard, right-wing Republican. But over the years the party starting changing in ways I did not like. And I must confess, I opened my eyes and discovered changes within myself. At this point, as I said, I prefer the Democratic agenda, but it is subject to change. For the moment, I still have hopes for Mr. Obama, but I assure you the red flags are beginning to wave in front of my eyes. |
