abailart says: It makes you stop thinking. The Catholic Church should remove the beam from its own eye. Ribbett, ribbett... The polish one before was more brilliant, I must say... This German one is a bigot... The Catholics can celebrate things like Day of The Dead, pray to saints and objects, yet a frog is blasphemous. Technically, the catholic church has been trying to get rid of "Day of the Dead" celebrations since they first encountered them. They tried making it into "All Saints Day" but the locals in Mexico and Southwestern U.S. continue the celebration, to honor their dead ancestors, despite protests from the Catholic Church. Viva el Dia de los Muertos! Viva Mictecacihuatl! it would be just as bad to put a crucifix in a mosque, a steak in a Hindu shrine.... That is why it is offensive. Who the Pope is and the MANY grevious mistakes the Catholic church has made have nothing to do with this issue. "it would be just as bad to put a crucifix in a mosque, a steak in a Hindu shrine...."A museum is not a mosque, Hindu shrine, or even a Catholic Church, so artwork, that may be controversial, is perfectly appropriate there. glad to see some house-cleaning getting done... or was that for election purposes...? At least abailart diverted a bit of the attention and tension from the usual issues.... One track minds enjoy ma wild goose chse evry now and then... they might actuakky need one... for a bit of recreation... every now and then... Just a few more hours and it should all be over ... For better or for worse... ... and yet the Catholic Church doesn't think that telling people to hate gays, liberated women and abortionists, in defiance of Jesus' philosophy that God is Love is blasphemous. Or the fact that they try to tell the world that one man, and only one man speaks for God. Some offensiveness permeates the atmosphere like fetid gas. Well Mary Magdalen was a bit of embarassment for Jesus in his hay day, I guess.... Censorship was apparently in fashion then too... However, I thought frogs went to ponds and not churches....? Why does the cross automatically mean that it has to be associated with the church? Lots of people, other than Jesus were crucified by the Romans, and others. Darkeforce: 1- The Catholic church has not ever told anyone to HATE anyone in recent years, to my knowledge. They have a religious basis for their denouncing some of the things you mentioned, never for hating. Loving someone does not involve consenting to behavior which you perceive as wrong or enabling it. Love is an action, not a feeling, which confronts and exposes wrong in order to change things for the loved one for the better. 2. with your second comment- I see your point, no it does not have to be the cross of Jesus- hundreds died on crosses before and after Him. If the catholics are not hating anyone, then why are they advocating treating a minority of people as less worthy of human rights than other people? If they want to stress that government should make Gay Marriage illegal, then they are displaying hatred for a minority, saying that they aren't true people worthy of equal consideration. Hatred is an action as well; and much hatred is deceptively marketed as Love. the rationale behind the fight against gay marriage goes like this 1. they do not want marriage re-defined because of the potential foot in the door for those who want other unions, such as bestiality, polygamy and pedophilia sanctioned by the courts. 2. It forces views contrary to their religion on everyone in the country, making it mandatory to treat others as if you approve of their lifestyle. 3. Many Gay activists do not want to secure just equal rights- they would like special rights that override those of others- giving preference to their right over and above someone else's right to religion and free speech. 4.they fear t... Well; 1) So long as the civil and the religious elements of Marriage remain joined, then the Church is in no position to impose their will over something that is also a secular social contract. If they don't like it, they can always call religious marriage something else. I recommend Fleezbisage. Plus, the "Slipprey Slope" type of arguments are logically flawed 2) Not once has any of the attempts to legalize gay marriage tried to force anyone to do anything they didn't want to do. In fact, every one of them specifically listed provisions stating that religious figures who disapproved of gay marriage would not be forced to do them. So, that is a non-issue. 3) This one is just a flat-out lie... |
