Remnants of the cold war?

It is really disturbing the amount of space junk that is circling our planet (and entering our atmosphere too).

Bound to happen, just like eventually some re-entering multi-ton piece of trash is going to kill someone, or a whole lot of someones.

I heard on the news today that Calgary Alberta was on high alert and the a small town called Vulcan further east because the trajectory was aimed at them but it ended up somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.
