Let's see how many people click on that title!

I hope I have your attention now, because this is important!

Some politically active Jews, although certainly passionate, often have trouble telling friend from foe. The belief among Jews that the Christian Fundamentalist Evangelical community is a friend is a big mistake.

Some worry that Obama is part of the nation of Islam, or Palestinian, or that he won't help Israel. But they think the GOP will.

But what is the Christian Right's agenda in helping Israel? Clearly, right-wing evangelical fundamentalists like Hagee have no tenderness or fondness for Jews.

They believe Israel is simply a part of God's ultimate plan leading to the apocalypse. Although they support the Jews returning to Israel, they also believe it is Biblical prophecy that there will be continuous warfare, so they don't support peace, but an Israel besieged. Many believe this is the prelude to the final destruction of the Jews by a wrathful God.

And since there is a risk, with my provacative title, that I'm going to piss off some of the chosen people, let me outline my take on the Israeli situation and you tell me what you think:

1.
Israel must always be a sovereign nation

...on the principle that, no matter how long it takes, when you take away the land of a people, eventually, they are going to get it back. And there can be no peace until that wrong is righted.

2.
Palestine must always be a sovereign nation

...on the same principle. Jews of all people should know that the Palestinians will never give up fighting for their lands. The Jews and Palestinians, furthermore, are equally deserving of sovereign nations.

The tragic thing is that the trouble between Israel and Palestine could be resolved by things as simple as mutual respect and civility. Unfortunately, human decency is not something that politicians on either side seem interested in, and the US certainly hasn't encouraged it.

In my opinion, due to his new ideas on how to solve these problems, Obama represents the only chance at peace. Otherwise we'll just be doing more of the same that has failed us for the last 50 years.

Great clip OW. I'm so tired of seeing so much rhetoric about the opposite.
