Torley says: I found out about this a few days ago while doing some more fishing for retrogames: BaSS is a game I've never played before, only heard of. I'm familiar with the classic Sierra and LucasArts games as well as The Longest Journey, and much to my pleasure, this is in a similar vein. The music isn't up to par but the dialog is memorable and the visuals are pretty evocative — not DirectX 10, 3D goodness, but well-crafted nuances from an early age of electronic entertainment. As a 66 MB download, it comes highly recommended! Quite enjoyed this one. A few stumpers, if I remember rightly, but I enjoyed the story. Man, I spent many sleepless nights playing BaSS some twelve years ago on my Amiga 1200. These days many people thought that this was an "unbeatable adventure game" and yes, it was quite good. One of my all time favourites along with Broken Sword, LSL series, Dig, Longest Journey and Omicron: The Nomad Soul... I only found out about this recently: as alluded to, my youth was heavily saturated with Sierra and LucasArts, but the works of Revolution Software didn't grab me until several weeks ago. I just find it strikingly hilarious that the protagonist is named after a beer, which also has a convenient dual-meaning. Definitely seems like a Mad Max Australian undercurrent running through this, too. |
