BobbyRutan says:
In response to the event, Mikey Weinstein, an Air Force veteran and the founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, intends to file a lawsuit against the Department of Defense. He stated: "The participation of the United States Air force and United States Army in a blatantly fundamentalist, evangelizing Christian conversion spectacle represents a veritable unparalleled rape of the US Constitution, which all members of the American military swear an oath to protect, preserve, support and defend. This is an absolutely crystal-clear example of the most pernicious religious predation by the US military command structure, and simply writing letters and making phone calls of protest appear to be as useless as a baseball bat in a football game."

Also from the source:

In preparation for the lawsuit, Weinstein told Truthout: "I'm advising the DOD to save all their emails and all of their correspondence relating to the planning of this event." He warned the DOD not to "try and pull a Karl Rove and get rid of any of these emails. If that happens, we will move forward with obstruction of justice charges."

Weinstein is intimately familiar with military law. Serving as White House counsel, he defended the Reagan administration during the Iran-Contra investigation. Since he launched his watchdog organization 18 months ago, Weinstein said he has been contacted by more than 4,000 active-duty and retired soldiers, ma...

How dare those damned Christians celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Air Force.

No, it's how dare this administration and military coordinate their celebration through evangelical groups bent on dominating our armed services.

Separation of church and state protects government from religion and religion from government.

What strikes me as interesting is that you can't attack the guy leading the charge because he defended Reagan and his boys when they were breaking the law under the Boland Amendment.

There is no separation of church and state in the Constitution. That is flat out bullshit. It is flat out wrong to discriminate against someone because of their religion. But fact is, if this was some secular group, none of you anti-Christian zealots would give a shit. That, my friend, is discrimination.

sooners- you can tone down your rhetoric as was agreed upon by clippers recently.

This would not be discriminatory if all religious groups were allowed to be present along with atheist and pagan groups. As the article states our military is made up of all types of religions and no religion at all.

To coordinate this event with evangelical christians complete with passing out bibles and using military aircraft for flyovers during worship services is an endorsement for one religion over others.

I wonder what your reaction would be if the event was funded by islamic groups passing out the Quran? I know my position would still remain consistent.

The military has more than enough money to fund their own celebration.

"Useless as a baseball bat in a football game"? I can think of many uses for a baseball bat for football. I mean, a direct attack against the other players is ruled out, but if we got someone like Barry Bonds to hit that football to the other side of the stadium...
