Hey Clipmarks developers. I have an ideas. Permalinks to individual clips are very very long. Do you think it would be possible to have a [clip=...] BBCode command so we could shorten those URLs somewhat?

I'm a little confused, what exactly follows the equal sign in [clip=...]?

Well, I'm not sure what the best way to do it would be. Right now, the clip URLs are of the form:

http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/0EA3CF09-FC8E-48E6-BA7C-D634485BE310/

The sort of obvious thing would be to just cut out the

http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/

so that we could link to other clips with a code like:

[clip=0EA3CF09-FC8E-48E6-BA7C-D634485BE310]

Of course it would be even better if that long code could be shortened further.

Hey guys,

I have thought about a custom bbcode a while back. As you have just suggested, in its shortest possible form, the clip ID would need to be referenced, so it would have to be something like this: [clip=0EA3CF09-FC8E-48E6-BA7C-D634485BE310] LINK TEXT[/clip]

which is not too much shorter/easier than the current [ url=http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/0EA3CF09-FC8E-48E6-BA7C-D634485BE310 ]LINK TEXT[ \url ] (no spaces). The url tag may even be easier to use because the url can be copied and pasted from the address bar into the code without having to be edited.

If the consensus is that supporting a clip tag, as described above, would make linking to clips easier,
then we can certain...

I think it would only make sense if clips could also be given short IDs that could be copied and pasted from the clip (the way the permalink can be now). When I think about it now, a 32- or 36-character ID isn't much of an improvement over the whole URL. Sometimes i just run the permalinks through a URL-shortening service to make them easier to manage.
