Intel has a big stake in making WiMax happen. It was one of the great beneficiaries of WiFi -- and CEO Paul Otellini would like to see a replay of those happy days with WiFi. But there's lots more competition these days -- not to mention all the jostling going on over the FCC spectrum auction. Is it worth $2 billion to Intel to try to jump start WiMax? Probably so.
