Unfortunately, this situation was exacerbated by readers willing to react to 'facts' they ascertained from the articles' lack of details. Fancy way of saying 'jumping to conclusions'. And just why do we continue to do this? Sgt. Crowley claimed in his report that the caller identified "two black males" as breaking into the home. He also claimed he spoke with the caller about what she had seen, while she claims she only identified herself to him as the caller. Why did he falsify his report? True dulios. Also, why did Sgt. Crowley call Harvard Police after Prof.Gates showed his Harvard ID? (according to Crowley's report). It is perfectly reasonable for a black man in the United States to suspect racial profiling when approached by the police, especially when he knows that he has done nothing wrong. To me, this was always a case of a police officer overreacting. Crowley should have left after Prof. Gates proved his identity. Obama was correct when he labeled the arrest stupid. Arrest under Massachusetts "idle and disorderly person" statute was unlawful under Massachusetts law, where defendant was arrested for yelling, screaming, swearing and generally causing a dist... |
