New York: Russell Sage Foundation. p. 72 I just always check 'Native American'. I think they should simplify the question by narrowing it down to human and other. There are only two races... The decent and indecent. Victor Frankl. The comments are very interesting considering the sources. Although it is true, Hispanic is not a race. I am Hispanic and Caucasian. Hispanic is NOT a race, it is an ethnic group; that's all. The question of "race" should be eliminated from all government questionnaires. Since the government is not suppose to make judgements based on race, sex or religion why the Hel do they even need to know? Eliminate it! I am Hispanic and Caucasian. Hispanic is NOT a race, it is an ethnicI agree 100% ! Dividing people on the basis of race, however, is too politically advantageous for some. Progressive-ism is built upon separating people. In fact, there is an entire field of study solely devoted to the purpose of defining society in stratified materialistic terms. What La Raza? The term "Hispanic" means that the people of Spain (considered to be Caucasian) intermingled with those native to countries like Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, etc. etc. long, long ago and somebody decided to group the offspring all into one group labeled Hispanic. I am proud to be Irish, but I don't need to put in on a census. As far as I'm concerned -- if you are a legal citizen -- you are an American, everything else is secondary. And with all that is going on in the world, who the ***k cares? The term Hispanic refers (in a similar as the term Asian) to people who have immigrated to the U.S. from Spanish (and Portuguese) speaking countries south of the border. It is a purely political term embraced by 2nd generation (or later) descendants of these immigrants as a way of presenting a united front and exploring common cultural, linguistic and historical tides. Race is a different matter all together. As for La Raza, that is a strictly Chicano organization, although other "Latinos" or "Hispanics" are open to cooperate or participate. |
