Man, words do not describe.

I witnessed mini-events like this over and over while working at my college paper.

Often, emboldened by other gonzo journalists and excellent satire publications like The Onion, a writer will turn in a piece that relies on it's own absurdity for it's humor. The sheer ridiculousness of the piece is meant to convey the "just kidding" that's missing.

Unfortunately, without the context of history (in the case of a consistent humor writer) or the tone of the rest of the publication (in the case of The Onion) the joke is often missed.

Were this exact piece run in The Onion, no one would have batted an eye.

Without further information to consider, my instinct tells me that skiff's comment is right.

I feel what skiff is putting down, but my head is making the same sound as mousie. Being a victim of a rape, I find it hard to smirk at satire using rape as the punchline.

Definitely didn't mean to imply that i was smirking at it Dizzy. i have enormous compassion for you or anyone who has ever been a victim of rape. Just thinking that this professor most likely didn't mean his words to be taken literally... doesn't make them right of course!

dizzidezzi, i completely agree with you! rape is not an issue i can smirk at either - no matter what the context or intended "humorous" effect of the article in question.

Give this guy the ass-hat of the year award.

Professors often think they are free to preach whatever comes to mind. What happens when this guy, who probably has been spouting this garbage in his classes, influences a student or three to just go ahead and commit rape.

I'm sure he'll be sorry then, or not.
