Some conservatives in America have made an effort to argue that America's "War on Terrorism" is not really a war against Islam. Many conservative Christians, however, don't seem to see this distinction and regard attacks on Islam or Muslims as reasonable, justified retaliation for terrorist attacks on America. In adopting this perspective, they undermine both the secular character of America and America's basic security.
<P>America's secularism is undermined because American foreign policy is being aligned according to religious dogma and agendas, not national interests. America's security is undermined because treating Islam as the enemy means that Muslims — including those in America — will have to regard America as the enemy and become radicalized.
