At a distance it would seem that the city of San Francisco would look like this but the reality is that bedrock could keep Sutro tower and other buildings from collapsing altogether. Northbeach and Treasure Island won't fair so well because their buildings are built on landfill. The Cypress freeway which vehicles bounced up and down while traveling between pillars when it was standing gave many indications of things to come. Unfortunately California's "low taxes" politics won over safety and the whole highway had to be rebuilt after October 1989. |
