You will need to install SQL Server 2000 first if it is not already installed. Then Install SP3 or above on it. Then install SQL 2005 as a named instance. BOL has a handy compatibility chart for the various versions.</p> <P>If SQL 2000 is already installed and working then everything should be simple as long as SP3 or above is installed. This is because, Before SP3, SQL Server 2000 didn't relinquish SQL listener service on port 1434 when SQL Browser Service starts. This meant that the Browser service couldn't start unless you'd stopped SQL 2000 beforehand.</p> <P>Since SP3, all should be well.</p> <P>I'm not sure if there are any snags with installing version 7, 8 and 9 all together on the one machine (handy for a development server that has to cope with existing systems), I haven't tried this, but Microsoft claims that it is possible. What about you, Adam? Have you got all three versions working together?</p> </DIV></blockquote></div><div style="margin: 0px 6px 6px 4px;"><table style="font-size: 11px;border-spacing: 0px;padding: 0px;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tr><td style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;"> </td><td align="right" style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;width:107px" width="107"><a href="http://clipmarks.com/share/0B81123D-6A4F-4390-A2CF-B5553E6D3C1B/blog/" title="blog or email this clip"><img src="http://content8.clipmarks.com/images/c2b-foot.png" border="0" alt="blog it" width="107" height="17" style="border-width:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px;" /></a></td></tr></table></div></div>
