Pretty depressing, if it's true. Hard to know how much credence to give this particular source, though.

I guess all it takes for someone with leftist persuasion to question the veracity of a claim is to have in office a president you like. I happen to not believe the claims any more than I believed them when Bush was president. However, if by worse you mean a few slight menu changes that reflect cuts in the budget for Guantanamo, then perhaps it is true. I think Beans and weenies as opposed to baked season chicken and rice pilaf could constitute worsening conditions.

Oh, give me a freaking break, willhelm. You know my style well enough to know I've never taken testimony like this at face value if it comes from just one person, no matter who the president is. And if you read the descriptions of what our boys are supposedly doing, it's pretty repellent. Strapping prisoners into chairs, force-feeding them laxatives until they're bathed in diarrhea, and then pre-treating their toilet paper with pepper spray? Pretty creative.

It is not only shameless but already challenging and aggressive. We have a lot of work ahead to suppress this Neanderthal syndrome.

From what we can read in history, if we don't have the personal experiences, people can be totally savage.

Best not to 'let loose the dogs of war.' -- play sports, go to parties, make a few dates. The only REAL VALID, reason, imo, to kill someone is to protect your own life.

Thinking like that can actually help you live a longer and happier life.

"Several of my clients have had toilet paper pepper-sprayed while they have had hemorrhoids," Ghappour said.
Ouch!!!

Wonder if that hurts more than having your head severed from your body or being blown up by a bomb?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but this is not a high priority for me.

The problem is that 95% of all Guantanamo detainees were turned in by bounty hunters in their native countries. At least 55% are not alleged to have engaged in any hostile act against the U.S. They're basically there by mistake. Still OK with you, sparlingphoto?

They have the Messiah to lead them out of the wilderness...or do they?

actually sparlingphoto, i have a question for you. It seems you believe the way we've been treating prisoners, some of whom you seem to acknowledge to be innocent, in Guantanamo is justified by the fact that terrorists have attacked the U.S. What acts on the part of the U.S. would you say are not justified by the fact that terrorists have attacked the U.S.? Or does the fact of 9-11 give us basically a free hand to do anything to anyone anywhere in the world? I mean, seriously, is there any moral limitation on what we can do to people, in your view?

I'm not apologizing for terrorism here but I don't see the relevance of your first point. If my tax dollars are going to pay for this ki...

To put it plainly, those who use and justify torture are bullies which means they are cowards. Torture is evil. End of story.

Where does this info come from, enbar?

Well, there's a lot of information available on this. This figure actually comes from DOD documents. Analysis is available here. It's now several years old, so it may no longer be accurate. I'm still curious about your answer to my earlier question. How many innocent people would you say it's okay to incarcerate and torture without charge?

Ideally, none.

Well, I assumed we'd agree on the ideal. In your view, is there an upper limit?
