In fact, the "core" basket of US inflation unbelieveably excludes food, energy, and commodity prices. Raw material prices are skyocketing, the US Dollar is plunging versus the Euro, and Gold is at a record $816 per ounce this morning, but we are suppose to believe that US "core" inflation is well contained under 2 to 3 percent. Since official US government statistics indicate that there is really no inflation, that gives Helicopter Bernanke the Federal Reserve authority to print more money and issue more credit.
