It didn't take long for torture to become acceptable, did it(?) We shouldn't be surprised - they have been at it for decades. The Brits favoured technique - or so I hear - is to place as many 'suspects' as they can into a small cupboard so that they just have room to stand but not move - and then leave them there for a day or two. It isn't going to stop, anytime soon - well. not unless we have some kind of revolution to shake us out of our comfortable complacency. Cruel and unusual. I get the feeling that Revolution is about due folks!!! How long will the lower classes tolerate being trodden on? As long as all these rights violations keep the gas coming in cheaper than the rest of the world, and keep the 99 cent chips on the shelf at Wal-Mart, the masses will tolerate this forever. The masses will tolerate this even when they start getting lower salaries and poorer living conditions? Is that really what you think? We used to deplore when other countries tortured people. We, the West. The "civilized" world. We are supposed to be the good guys, who do good and care and want nice lives for people and have decency and ethics and compassion and believe in the whole nine yards about "freedom and democracy" and human rights etc.. But we're bad guys. Really really bad guys. Not just the US or Britain, there are certainly others, but ALL of us. We don't even show any shame any more. (the pics at Abu Ghraib) It's just accepted. The world moves on. The rest of the world is either helpless, indifferent, complicate, or silent. And evil thrives when good men do nothing. All nations share in the shame. "Torture."... complicate = complicit. Sorry. .  How hypocritical - the nation of the "Moral Majority" has become the "might makes right, divinely justified, patriotic, Joe Six-pack Torturers" and its all legal - because WE say it is! The "We" who say it is could protest such practices which are done in their name. So why are people sitting at home watching the idiot box (never a better name has been given to anything) and avoiding looking at what is going on around them!! Why wasn't Bush removed from Office by the Democrats when they could have done it? Why was Impeachment not used against him and his gang of criminals? What on EARTH happened to the Democrats? It is definately time for a revolution, in voting options at least, in the US along with the UK too and a few other "developed" countries. Human beings are a plague that should be removed from this planet so that the planet and other species may survive!!! Human beings are a plagueIt's hard to face, but just looking around us, devastation, pollution, extinction, greed, war, hunger, poverty, overpopulation...it's hard to deny. . The Earth would have done so much better without us. |
