egoldstein says: A very underrated and neglected thing to do. I really find that most people don't pay much attention to things most of the time. For whatever reason, i tend to be someone who pays very close attention to everything. I guess if you think about it, clipmarks is kind of about paying attention to what you're reading and capturing the finer points that others may overlook (a stretch?) I've noticed that my daughter pays incredible attention to her surroundings and i think it's had an incredible impact on her ability to learn to speak. A student said to Master Ichu, 'Please write for me something of great wisdom.' Master Ichu picked up his brush and wrote one word: 'Attention.' The student said, 'Is that all?' The master wrote, 'Attention. Attention.' The student became irritable. 'That doesn't seem profound or subtle to me.' In response, Master Ichu wrote simply, 'Attention. Attention. Attention.' In frustration, the student demanded, 'What does this word attention mean?' Master Ichu replied, 'Attention means attention.'Source: Charlotte Joko Beck. 1993. Nothing Special: Living Zen.
