For sure. Like people, some dogs are more intelligent and playful than others. I am privileged to live with two very personable, intelligent dogs, one of whom has a particularly good sense of humor. The grin on his face and the look in his eye when he knows he's being funny are priceless. It's been my observation that dogs don't like to be laughed at. They act like it hurts their feelings and are humiliated. Same with cats. FOX should come out with "Last Dog Comic Standing" dorine1722, they got feelers, too. I agree with the observations of both gingembre and Dorine. And of course dogs most certainly would have always needed a sense of humor to put up with humans. The surprise is that they have not bit humans in the ass much more often than is the case. Dogs write the comic strip Doonesbury. I think they react more on a sensory level. They can sense when something is funny to the "human" and react accordingly, if so inclined. I had a cat who used to fetch. One of my current dogs, loves to play and can be quite silly in initiating play. Of course I have heard it said that animal lovers are quite biased when it comes to their companions. (we don't believe that though) My cat plays fetch too. He (Murphy) even initiates the game, by dropping his toy mouse in my lap and nudging me, begging me to throw it. Cute and smart he is. My dog likes to tease me by dropping his bone next to me (showing that he wants me to pick it up and play fetch with him), but just as I bend down to pick it up, he grabs it and runs off! Then he just looks at me in a very content way... likes he's out to get me or something? You get popped for the comments and clip. Animals are great, but they do come in all types of personalities. Some are happy, outgoing and funny, others are shy and cute, some are feisty and courageous and some are quite and nurturing. You probably find all of these types in a single litter, as I often did when we bread dogs. Our dogs have different ways of showing their sense of humor, When they get a chewy they like, they throw it around like a toy with a big smile on their face. They've never seen a person eat a chewy. Izzy is the worst. I think he gets the idea if he throws one away he'll get another, but he forgets about the first one. I remember telling Misha (The Prima Donna) to go to bed and she was running around the house while I was chasing her telling her to behave. In the end I calmed down and and told her the fun was over, with no more games. She went straight to bed. Like people, dogs never have much of a sense of humor, when you wake them up. pop for the comments as well as for the clip....brings back memories of my doggies in India..... Dogs write the comic strip Doonesbury.Troll. I truly believe my dog had a sense of humour, he would know if I was feeling down and always do something stoopid to get a grin on my face. I agree some of it may be learned, a certain reaction to a situation but knowing when to react shows intelligence. Bottom line, dogs is like people, there's funny ones, dumb ones, blonde ones and tough ones. Yes I believe it too. My dog, Cricket, used to pull the covers off my bed when she wanted me to wake up. She would pull them off and then twist in them so they covered HER! She would look at me like she was saying "Bet THAT got your attention!!" A video, which proves it. I had to comment on this one! My pet Schneagle (half-Schnauzer half-Beagle) sleeps at my feet at nights and loves to "play" in the covers et al before bedtime. She is very intelligent w/ sarcastic humor, as she does NOT play in the bed UNTIL it is made! I have left my bedroom door open all the time if the bed is not made, along with the covers square so I could tell if she played on them or not. NOPE! She does not play under/with the covers (as if she knows she is messing a made-up bed) UNLESS it is made! This goofy grin she has every time she does it is truly priceless! |
