Does anybody understand the reasoning in this? Am I just too dumb to see it?

You don't have to cross traffic making right hand turns. You can also make right hand turns at red lights. I can see certain situations where this could help, like having to make a left hand turn across a busy street, but I can't see it being efficient all the time.

It's an anti-NASCAR conspiracy.

Acceleration from a stop uses the most gas because it takes more power to get a car going than to keep it going. If you take only right hand turns, you almost never have to come to a complete stop. That is what saves on gas.

I'm still not sure exactly what saves on gas, but I imagine not having to cross active lanes of traffic at stop signs and being able to take rights on red helps as well
