balthazarus says: When it comes to blood, it suddenly seems so much frightening... Gaah!!!! Recently, I saw a documentary where a guy was being cured of his migraine by leeches. They were placed at the temples right beside the eyes. Hunger for blood from these leeches, apparently releised the pressure that was causing the headaches. Not long ago they were thought to treat many form of illnesses... A lot of mental illnesses were also thought to be curable by draining the patient. Though some of the claims to cure by bloodletting may be true, I prefer to let my blood stay in my vains. Seems to be I read where they are using leeches after some transplants, like hand, arm, to help bring done swelling or was it in crush injuries. Of course, medicine has also discovered that putting maggots (sterilized of course) eat diseased tissue in an infected wound--so maybe some of the ancient remedies really are best. |
