I agree that population is a problem. I also see more and more that it is being used as a red herring in environmental arguments. Usually, it seems, by right wing publications and authors. (*ducking now... just an observation, not a slam). The biggest problem seems to me that the people arguing for population control seem to have missed the one sure fire way to implement it; education. There are statistics that clearly show that the trend to have less children is most clearly seen in sectors of the population (here and worldwide) that have access to higher levels of, and earlier education.

You don't have to "duck"....I can see both sides of this augument. I think that before imposing mandatory population control, everything should be done to educate people. Providing free birth control and anything short of violating peoples rights. Some real problem areas are these places where people are packed in like sardines. I think this is a population problem that becomes an even bigger human problem.
See how agreeable I can be?

It's no wonder that the more developed countries (better education) birth rates are dropping, yet 3rd world countries and undeveloped countries populations are out of control. Of course the other elephant in the room is the Catholic church. But like chestnut, providing education and free birth control should not be construed as violating peoples rights even in predominately Catholic countries.

Education is key, but even with reduced fertility, we are quickly outgrowing our earth.

In nature, Darwinism takes over and the species thin themselves out through illness, starvation and survival of the fittest. All things we are trying to erradicate in humans.

Most people don't realize that the plague was so devastating world wide because a mini-ice age had decimated food crops for years and the population was weak and prone to illness and infection.

Vaccinations and many pharmaceutical drugs are proved to lower the bodies immunity. Makes me wonder if the ever increasing forced schedules of dangerous drugs is a underhanded attempt to sicken our population and then wait for the next plague.
