It's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

She may be carrying negative vibes for a long, but at the end of the day, when we look at all the other choices, I think Hillary wins hands down and she should be elected as our next President.

Yes. What we need more of is rewarding hard work by taking away what you worked for and giving it to someone else in the name of fairness.

giving it to someone else
Yes, the deserving someone else, the in-need someone else, yes, I'm all for it.

I don't like Hillary because I don't believe her, period. She will say whatever it takes to get elected, but will she restore the Constitution and the balance of power in government? Will she abandon the neoliberals/neocons dream of Pax Americana?

People are greedy more than anything else (with the occasion exception), any economic model that does not place to the strengths of greed will fail eventually.

i don't trust hillary all that much either, but as a borderline socialist, i can appreciate the sentiment!

we are a greedy society, myself included; i constantly try to remind myself that with a roof over my head, i am richer than 80% of the world's population...

an amazing thing to keep it all in perspective: http://www.miniature-earth.com/

n2sooners's headline carries negative conotation, and we can all see what he is trying to achieve, but kalibrooke, you brought this well under the context with your excellent clip.

If being responsible for the surrounding society - and not just your own self - is socialism (and communism, which isn't far from n2sooners's perspective) then call me socialist as well.

Ya, lets get Hillary elected and maybe she can confiscate all the property of those evil oil companies and shut down FOX only to replace it with a station run by the DNC.

And yes, I mean it very negatively because if you punish success then people will stop striving to succeed. Socialism is the exact opposite of the American Dream.

I agree with what BitDrifter stated above about greed being a primary motivator that needs to be considered in any economic model. That said, i also believe that the gap between compensation for the absolute wealthiest and everyone else has ballooned to an unhealthy and inappropriate size. I think something needs to be done to curb that. Here is an example straight from this article...
In 1965, the average corporate chief executive earned 24 times as much as the average worker, she said. By 2005, it was 262 times as much.
btw, i just posted this clip of another statement that hillary made from this same article

Why all the concern what a CEO makes? Seriously, these guys usually work 60+ hour weeks to get to the top, and if their company takes a dive, they are out of a job. But why not any comparisons to other job titles?

For example, why not show the difference between what the average sports star made in 1965 compared to what they make now? Or how about your average movie star? Or the average top 40 band?

Or better yet, why not stack up how much her husband makes per hour for his speaking gigs compared to the average worker or CEO?

Well the socialist model has been shown to be an economic model which stagnates quickly. The main reason is the wage controls are too strong and the gov't stifles natural competition by over regulation.

The main reason I can see for trying to narrow the rich poor gap is to prevent the countries we live in from turning into Mexico or Brazil where the rich have to live in guarded enclaves lest the poor kill them.

Being rich is awesome but the poor have to at least believe that they too can become rich, or at least middle class, or else they will take to the streets and cause problems.

Greed is good....socialism is bad. If you disagree then change the constitution or move to Europe

greed is good? what the...??

i couldn't disagree any more with you, and i'm not even part of a religion that believes greed is one of the seven deadly sins...

there are lots of things that can make one successful, but something defined as an "intense and selfish desire" is not something to build a societal structure around.

It does depend on what definition of greed is being used. Some will say greed is any desire for more than what you absolutely need to survive. Others will define it, as you did, as intense selfishness. I believe under the first broad definition, some greed is good. But I agree with you that when it reaches the point of intense selfishness, then it is bad.
