The whole Big Brother thing going on in England, man, it makes my brain hurt. This case seems to be an example of what happens when the best of intentions go woefully wrong.

The 'special' relationship is costing the British public big time. Blair's hope/expectation that he'd guide Bush proved the ruination of his and Britain's reputation. Blair proved to be the court jester, a man who had the potential to have been great.

I think you may be naive not to think you are being observed on video, or bugged in audio, or having emails read, etc.

No? I believe England might actually have the most number of video surveillance cameras, etc.and British Intelligence has quite a high reputation for finding out about things.

No?

I once read that in the old days of Ireland that sometimes English agents even posed as priest in a confessional. Very clever.

True

It had been thought that the up close and personal experiences that the UK had with the IRA was that the state must maintain standards. If it sacrifices those standards then it's worse that its opponents. Creating martyrs is the sure way to lose hearts and minds.

All the progress of recent times are now shot to hell with gross over reaction by Blair's gang. Trust is hard gotten but easily lost. Frightening the citizens is the opposite of good governance.
