There is a lag time of 10-15 years and the effects are seen after this period." He mentions that genes do have an important role to play in determining the occurrence of cancer. Some people smoke and drink a lot but that doesn't deteriorate their health whereas some people are affected immediately. "It depends on the genetic make-up of each person.
